Alumni Talks – Insights from European Studies Graduates

20.01.2026 -

With our Alumni Talks, we aim to give current students the opportunity to gain first-hand insights into life after studying European Studies at OVGU Magdeburg. In this format, alumni return to share their academic and professional journeys, reflect on key decisions, and speak openly about opportunities, challenges, and career paths after graduation.

The Alumni Talks take place online and are designed to be interactive. Students are encouraged to bring their own questions, engage in discussion, and exchange ideas directly with alumni. Depending on the audience and needs, the talks may be held in German and/or English.

The first Alumni Talk in 2026 will feature Sarah Schmitt, alumna of the Master’s programme in European Studies. After completing her Master’s degree, she gained international experience through an internship in Brussels and is now working in a research project with Prof. Böcher at OVGU. In her talk, Sarah will share insights into her academic path, her transition from studies to research, and her experiences working in a research-focused environment. This session is especially suited for students interested in research, academia, and research-related career paths.

Over the coming weeks, further Alumni Talks will follow, each highlighting different professional trajectories – ranging from research and academia to international organisations, NGOs, public institutions, and other fields. This series is intended to provide students with a broad overview of possible career paths after European Studies and to inspire them in shaping their own academic and professional futures.

Information on upcoming talks, speakers, and registration will be shared regularly on the website and social media channels. We are very much looking forward to an engaging series of Alumni Talks and to welcoming many students to these conversations.
